Confirmed that the source of the noise in the ductwork was caused by thermal expansion. After the system runs in heating mode the sound is heard most prevalently in the master bathroom. Aeroseal, a method of internally sealing the duct work to close up leaks, softens the sound inside the duct work and helps prevent the noise caused by thermal expansion by cushioning the ductwork joints. Retested static pressure at Earline's request. System is failing static pressure indicating there is an issue with the airflow, likely in the ductwork. The thermal expansion noise in the duct work will not harm her system in any way, nor affect the operation in either heating or cooling mode.

Heating inspection completed. Static pressure in heating mode is near system's max rating in heating mode. Indoor fan assembly has a layer of dirt that, if left unchecked, will decrease airflow and wear out the indoor fan motor faster. Humidifier is operational. Advise adjusting the humidifier in small increments until they find the right balance between humidifying the air and preventing condensation on the windows. Verified fan speeds to match the capacity in cooling and heating modes. Advised against using the five inch 3m MERV 12 filters because it was severely restricting the airflow. Adjusted gas pressre in high heat to match the airflow needs and prevent overheating. Biological growth discovered under the indoor coil during heat exchanger inspection. Field supervisor dispatched to determine why the air pressure was so high in the system.

Called out to address problematic sound that bothers customer. We’ve already braced the return duct. I heard the noise and then went to the source area. Sounds like it’s coming from a supply duct. I adjusted the humidifier water line that was leaned against the supply duct. I also found several supply registers closed. I opened them all. Either could’ve been the reason for the noise. After several retests, I cannot recreate the noise. Seems that one of these adjustments has worked. Cx was .06 over on static pressure test. Retest confirmed a drop to .45 after registers were all opened.

Upon arrival I began the furnace tune up. The homeowner was concerned because she is hearing a popping noise each time the system turns off. My Field Supervisor Nathan came out to assist in finding the solution to this popping noise. We found all the vents in the basement were closed off and the humdifier water line was laying on top of the ducts and when it turns on and the solenoid valve opens it clicks and could have been making the popping noise. We moved the line so it isn’t touching the duct anymore. We also opened all the vents downstairs and tested the system 4 times without any popping noise now. So, I believe we have it fixed but it the noise occurs again please reach out to us. I completed the furnace tune up. All the electrical components were testing within the manufacturer specifications. Temp rise was within specs at 46 degrees. I set the humidifier to 35% and tested the water source is working and the flow of water is correct speed. If you have any questions or concerns

Arrived to do a performance maintenance. Set up for combustion analysis and static pressure tests. Found that the system is failing static pressure with the 3m filter in the system, but passes with a less restrictive filter in the system. Verified operation of all mechanical and electronic components in the furnace. Found all connections heavily corroded. Found that the capacitor for the blower motor is failing. Cleaned the flame sensor and retested its performance. Checked blower for cleanliness and to see if there is any play in the bearings. Checked systems heat exchanger to ensure proper venting of flue gas. Found heavy bacterial growth present on the condensation pan for the evaporator coil. Checked for carbon monoxide in the air stream. Spoke with homeowner about the system. Furnace is operational at this time.
